How to compare .DNG (Adobe Digital Negatives) files with ECMerge?

ECMerge does not recognize natively DNG files, though they are a kind of TIFF files.

You need to import this DNG File Type description into the Preferences dialog box, File types panel. From there ECMerge can show the thumbnails of the DNG files.
